Answers and explanations
- 1BEach number is double the one before: 24 × 2 = 48.
- 2CThese are square numbers: 1 × 1, 2 × 2, 3 × 3 and so on, so the next is 6 × 6 = 36.
- 3AEach letter moves one step forward in the alphabet: D → E, O → P, G → H.
- 4DNorth, turn right: east. Turn right again: south.
- 5BRank from the bottom = 30 − 12 + 1 = 19.
- 6CA bird lives in a nest; a bee lives in a hive.
- 7D7 is in the thousands place: 7 × 1,000 = 7,000.
- 8B3/4 = 0.75, which is more than 1/2 = 0.5, 2/5 = 0.4 and 1/3.
- 9AMultiples of 4: 4, 8, 12 … Multiples of 6: 6, 12 … The first number in both lists is 12.
- 10CThe tens digit is 6, which is 5 or more, so round up to 3,500.
- 11D21 = 3 × 7, 27 = 3 × 9 and 33 = 3 × 11, but 29 has no factors except 1 and itself.
- 12BA square has 4 equal sides: 36 ÷ 4 = 9 cm.
- 13AOne line across the middle and one down the middle. The diagonals are not lines of symmetry.
- 14CLine up the decimal points: 0.50 + 0.25 = 0.75.
- 15D4:45 + 1 hour = 5:45, and 50 minutes more is 6:35.
- 16B25 × 12 = 300.
- 17A6 boxes hold 144 crayons. The other 6 crayons need one more box: 7 boxes.
- 18COne notebook costs 90 ÷ 3 = ₹30, so 5 cost ₹150.
- 19A1 kg = 1,000 g, so both weigh the same.
- 20DArea of a rectangle = length × width = 12 × 8 = 96 square metres.
- 21B45 + 15 = 60 minutes, so the break ends one hour after 10:00, at 11:00.
- 22D48 ÷ 3 = 16 is the middle number, so the numbers are 15, 16 and 17.
- 23A4 small squares and 1 big square: 5.
- 24BWork backwards: 50 + 4 = 54, and 54 ÷ 6 = 9.
- 25CIf all 12 were ₹5 coins they would make ₹60. Each ₹10 coin adds ₹5 more, and she needs ₹35 more: 35 ÷ 5 = 7.
